FOXNews.com – Teacher Who Sought to 'Demolish' Tea Party Placed on Leave From School "Now, the source said, parents have become outraged by the severity of his political activism, and many have told the school board members that it has no place in a public school system." – Apparently it's not okay to have an opinion if you are a teacher, unless, of course, your opinion is the right one. Wikipedia discussion on deleting entry on David Miller – Harald Welte's Blog The interesting, perhaps ironic, thing about Wikipedia deciding to delete David Miller's page is that Wikipedia runs on Linux hosts. David Miller is a fundamental reason why Wikipedia can even exist the way it does. Yet they have …

Last In – First Out: Bit by a Bug – Data loss Running Oracle on ZFS on Solaris 10, pre Update 8 Between this and the giant Joyent ZFS problems from a few years ago it makes me pretty wary of ZFS. It doesn't seem mature if it's losing data like this, and the problem was fixed in October of 2009. It's also pretty irresponsible of Sun to not publicize the matter more directly, and I'm sure that Oracle won't publicize it, either. Apple’s iPad Brings Easy Reading to the Blind « Forbes.com's Booked I've learned a lot about design from blind people I've known (as well as how service animals work). Dell's New Tablet, the Streak, Earns Rave Review | Peter Kafka | MediaMemo | AllThingsD Dude, what is up with tablets being named poorly? The STREAK? Like, get naked and run across a football field? Come on, people The Coming Carnage in the California Wine Industry – Vinography: A Wine Blog Interesting take on the glut of wine currently coming out of California, the general lack of sales, the impending destruction of a lot of wineries as a result, and the collateral damage (pun intended) that will happen to the banks financing those wineries. Feedback on VMware Snapshots » Yellow Bricks If you're a VMware user I'd suggest filling out this survey about snapshots. The snapshot capabilities in vSphere are very limited, and having things like automatic expiration, quota management, etc. would be awesome. Dell reverses position on 3rd party drives | Standalone Sysadmin This is big news, though them not selling drive carriers will suck a bit. However, if you want to run SSDs in a machine and don't want to pay $1500 for a 50 GB SSD you can, once again… That's really why I'm looking forward to it. There doesn't seem to be a good third-party drive carrier option, perhaps the trick is just to order extra drives, take them out …

Ivy Leaguers asked to lay off the iPad "According to the OIT, the issue is as follows: 'Network monitoring has shown that many iPad devices are causing a problem on the campus network. These devices are continuing to use an IP address they have been leased well beyond the time they should.'" It's standard behavior to blame everything else, and especially the new thing that just got released, and especially Apple devices, but I bet this will simply turn out to be some misconfiguration on the part of the IT folks.

HBO's 'Treme' creator David Simon explains it all for you | Treme – The HBO Series | News, Blogs and Reviews – NOLA.com A) I like that David Simon explains that not everything is going to be historically accurate, as they need to tell a good story, too. B) Hubig's Pies are my new favorite unhealthy breakfast while I'm in NOLA for Mardi Gras. Discovered them this year. C) I will not patronize HBO since they cancelled Deadwood, but I might have to find a way to check this show out.

The Flash Blog » Apple Slaps Developers In The Face This guy makes me like Adobe about 95% less. Perhaps a less standoffish approach would work better, like "we'd love to work with Apple to figure this out." Not "screw you, Apple." I Hope AT&T Dies A Painful Death

The new solution to the fact that I get 3 bars of signal in the middle of nowhere, but half a bar in my living room in Madison, WI? Femtocells. Pay $150 and get a device that turns your cell call into VoIP… From the NY Times: Even though the calls would be offloaded to an Internet service provider, AT&T customers would be charged for the minutes of phone service in their existing wireless plans unless they pay an extra $20 a month for unlimited calling. So AT&T wants you to pay $150 for the device, $40/month for DSL from someone else, then is going to charge you to use the DSL for your call? Unbelievable. And why, for those …

VMworld 2010: CFP Closes Someday, Somewhere

Vaughn Stewart posted this morning that the VMworld Call For Papers closes on Friday, April 9. Last Friday, I posted that it closed, well, last Friday. I think it’s safe to say that both of us encourage you to get moving! You don’t need slides prepared yet, just a 250 word or less session description, three takeaway points you want to convey, a short biography for yourself, a short description of your speaking history, and knowledge of your own mailing address. 🙂 Took me 30 minutes to do. As for the date, I guess it depends on where you look! The main VMworld page says there are two days until things close. The “Key Dates” page says April 2: I’m …
