  • "So at the end of the day, the best defense you have is a competent webhost that will do their part to prevent these attacks from happening. No reason to be alarmed." This is a great example of why sysadmins have to be smarter than app people — the app people always end up foisting their problems on us, instead of fixing it themselves. DoS attack in my app? Gaping security hole? Oh, the sysadmins can somehow magically fix that so I don't have to do any work. They've got firewalls, right? I don't get why they can't just firewall the bad guys out. Sysadmins are idiots! If they were any good at their job they'd be filtering the bad web traffic already. Like, DUH.
