“Without Debian we are nothing. Debian is the most influential and important Linux, and is unique for being the largest, oldest, 100% non-commercial community-driven distro. ‘…just under 63% of all distributions now being developed come ultimately from Debian. By comparison, 50 (15%) are based on Fedora or Red Hat, 28 (9%) on Slackware, and 12 (4%) on Gentoo.'” These conclusions are ridiculous. Other possible conclusions are that the Debian community is so f’ed up that it’s seriously fragmented. Also might be the case that Debian is so flawed that people have to fork it and fix it all the time. Hard to tell from these stats.

Sign this petition. Seriously. The world would be a better place if vendors like Cisco pulled their heads from dark smelly places and released emulators so we could test & train.

This is a really cool tool.

Hmm, I wonder how we can get this fact into the hands of the media.

If you’re into photography this is a short but good read on the effect of lens scratches on photo quality. The lens they demonstrated made me chuckle. Wow.

If you aren’t destroying your fixed disks you need to be, especially the SSD. It’s starting to look as if no company should let any media, magnetic or flash, out of the building. Ever.

Simple solution for SSD drives: use whole drive encryption. Yeah, this isn’t always feasible on thumb drives, but really should be mandatory for system SSDs.
