  • "What's the profile? The profile is this: non-touch-typists have to make sacrifices in order to sustain their productivity." Computer folks who cannot type well drive me nuts. Good essay.
  • "Don't bother looking up a quote for the S&P 498. The index always calls up fresh rookies from the minors to take the place of its retirees. The new additions will be industrial and construction supplies specialist Fastenal (Nasdaq: FAST) and enterprise software darling salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM)." Fastenal is out of Winona, MN, where I have a bunch of relatives. Cool!
  • "Scientists from the Evolutionary Acceleration Research Institute (EARI) announced that the first test of the Giant Animal Smasher (GAS) will begin on December 19, 2008, the 41st anniversary of the premiere of Dr. Dolittle." LOL.
  • It's important to remember what created the files in the first place, if you weren't the person to do so. In this case Matt had the web server create a few files, so he needs to get the web server to delete them again. Annoying, yes, but this is the permission model that keeps things pretty secure.

  1. Fastenal, interesting bit of synchronicity there. I was driving home yesterday afternoon on the 401, got passed by a Fastenal truck. It was tailgating, passing erratically and doing between 150 and 160 kph.
I wonder what Fastenal would say if that driver had their truck impounded for a week under the Ontario street racing laws.

  2. Oh, they’d probably be annoyed. When I was in Munich I was almost run over twice by speeding DHL drivers. Same deal. Aggressive driving is a form of poor customer service.
