Between this and the giant Joyent ZFS problems from a few years ago it makes me pretty wary of ZFS. It doesn't seem mature if it's losing data like this, and the problem was fixed in October of 2009. It's also pretty irresponsible of Sun to not publicize the matter more directly, and I'm sure that Oracle won't publicize it, either.

I've learned a lot about design from blind people I've known (as well as how service animals work). I've never played with VoiceOver, but it's on my phone. Maybe I will, since it sounds like it works well.

I'm proud that I know every reference except Donald Harrison. WHO DAT?

"I remember the days when it was common for people not to be reachable for (gasp) hours at a time. You couldn't even leave a message at the beep; you just had to try again later. It apparently is a miracle that our species didn't go extinct." I heart Raymond Chen.

If you're running JIRA and haven't patched in the last couple of days you're going to get hacked. Both Apache and Atlassian themselves got taken down. PATCH.

SWEET (kinda gory, if you don't like that stuff, but a great play on binders).

Good five minute read — world's most badass short bus is true, but second to Lance Blair, the badass driving it. I like stories where people decide they don't have to put up with what others tell them is possible, and invent their own reality. What did Alan Kay say? "Best way to predict the future is to invent it"

"Second, most people who lecture are awful – the bar is low – and in the case of professors, they are lecturing to people who are captives. The feedback loop in most universities is weak or broken regarding presentation skills, and in some cases, regarding teaching skills altogether." AMEN. This is the #1 reason I hated college — the terrible teachers with no real-world skills yammering on for hours to a captive audience.
