One thing to note about light: you can’t see past the light into the dark. Shut off the light, though, and you can see very well once your eyes adjust (5-10 minutes).

Well, obviously the scope of KnitML is limited to us knitters. The long and the short of it is, if there is something that you do in your spare time that could be made much easier, why not do it?
And you might also need to explain this to not only your mother but possibly your girlfriend, her friends, and possibly her friends’ boyfriends.
