What?
I need a privacy policy to satisfy certain other online entities. This is it.
What does this policy cover?
This privacy policy covers how lonesysadmin.net treats personal information it receives from visitors.
What information do you collect?
My web server automatically collects the IP address, browser type, and referring URL associated with your visit, just like every other web server on the ‘net. If you disclose information in the comments sections or while contacting me I will collect that, too. However, in both of those cases you can choose to not participate, or just use fake information. I’ll never know.
What about cookies?
If you choose to be remembered by this web site when you are submitting a comment it will set a cookie which will automatically be read again later.
How will you use this information?
I run a web log analyzer on the web server logs to give me an idea of who and where my audience is, and what they’re looking at. It’s my way of getting feedback. That way if I write an article about goats and iPods, and it’s popular, I’ll know to write more.
I may use a third party service to analyze my web traffic, such as, but not limited to, Google Analytics. In that case you are subject to their privacy policies. I make no claims about what they do with the data.
If you contact me I will use your contact information to respond to you. If you don’t like that, well, don’t contact me. :-)
How do you guarantee that this data remains private?
I really don’t. As a system administrator I tend to keep things secure and safe, but that is not a guarantee. Since you probably aren’t sharing much data with me anyhow you probably don’t have to worry too much.
Who will you share all of this information with?
I may potentially share any web server log data I get with third party web analyzer services, like Google Analytics. Beyond that I will not share any data with anybody, save law enforcement if they compel me to do so or if it suits me (you are threatening me, etc.).
