Elmer's Glue Slime

A favorite concoction of mine, since fifth grade. I just found the recipe again and I thought I’d share.

Ingredients:

– Borax powder
– 4 ounce bottle of white glue (not school glue)
– Water (preferably distilled)
– Food coloring (optional)

Materials:

– Teaspoon
– Big jar or 1-quart measuring cup
– 2-quart bowl
– Measuring cup

Procedure:

Squeeze the glue into the jar. Fill the empty glue bottle with water and add it to the jar. Add food coloring, if desired. Stir. In the 2-quart bowl mix 1 cup water with 1 teaspoon Borax powder. Stir well. Slowly add the glue mixture to the Borax mixture, stirring as you do so. Although there will be excess water in the bowl a thick slime will form. Remove the slime from the bowl and knead it in your hands until it feels dry. It will be wet, stringy, and messy at first but it will firm as you play with it. Store the slime in the refrigerator in a ZipLoc bag. Do not eat it.

Note: even stored in the refrigerator this slime will eventually mold. Replace your slime regularly. It usually cleans up easily, however, avoid prolonged contact with porous materials such as wood and fabric. If the slime dries on any surface soak it with water.

Update: In a strange coincidence Lifehacker also posted a recipe for DIY Silly Putty. Theirs uses liquid starch, and has snazzy videos and stuff.
